Centering begins with players spaced around the audience and concludes with the ensemble centered on stage.  The piece is performed without an conductor until the final movement.  The metaphor of spatial centering is extended to the musical material which progresses from atonal to key-centered tonality.  Movement 3, “Pavane: Gathering,” is based upon “El Bison”, an anonymous Renaissance dance.  Parts are available upon request.
