Road Songs is composed for my friends and colleagues, Laura Nichols, mezzo-soprano, Mary Budd Horozaniecki, violin, and Christine Dahl, piano. The outer two songs use texts from Walt Whitman’s Song of the Open Road; the middle piece is The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. Road Songs is dedicated to Laura and Mary without whose urging they would not have been composed, and it is the 8th of my Prairie Trios. The titles of the three songs are: The Open Road, The Road Not Taken, and Camarado!
