The concert will be presented free of charge on Sunday, March 2, at 4 PM in Mairs Concert Hall in the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center. The concert will feature 6 premieres, two of which have been composed especially for this concert. “Road Songs” with texts by Walt Whitman and Robert Frost will be premiered by Laura Nichols, mezzo, Mary Budd Horozaniecki, violin, and Christine Dahl, piano. “November,” a single-movement work which is the 9th and last in the composer’s series of “Prairie Trios” will be premiered by Mary Horozaniecki, Pat O’Keefe, clarinet, and John Jensen, piano
The program will also include music composed for the Minnesota Chinese Music Ensemble (Deep Water, and Bird Over Water), a string quartet (Lamentations), solo piano pieces, a duo for flute and clarinet (Shades of Green), a duo for recorder and harp (Modi), and Prairie Trio #7 (El Dia de los Muertos) for flute, clarinet, and piano.
Coordinated with the concert will be an exhibition in the lobby of photographs by Julia Macy. This concert and exhibition is the Macys’ parting gift to the Macalester and Twin Cities communities. Macalester’s own Generation Gap will play during a reception following the concert.
