Connections, written in 1986, was commissioned by John Sampen and Marilyn Shrude and the Composers Commissioning Program of the Minnesota Composers Forum.  The first performance was given at Macalester College by John, Marilyn, and Young-Nam Kim.  A poem by colleague Roger Blakely provided conceptual inspiration for the four movements.  The poem is included in the pdf score.  The four movements are titled: 1. Proximity: canons once removed; 2. In Tandem: Stimmtasch; 3. of one voice; 4. Mutuality: fugue.
