Icarus was first conceived as Icarus Flies in 2002 as a concerto for alto sax and string orchestra. Subsequently it was re-conceived as one continuous movement for sax quartet for a performance by the Quatour Intenational de Saxophones at the 2020 World Saxophone Congress in Japan. Due to Covid, its premiere had to wait until 2023 by the QIS at the WSC in Las Palmas, Canary Islands. This one-movement version also exists now as a concerto for alto sax and strings. The three continuous movements are: 1. Labyrinth, 2. Anticipation, and 3. Flight-Freedom.
