November is the 9th, and last in my series of Prairie Trios. November was composed for my friends and colleagues, Mary Budd Horozaniecki (violin), Patrick O’Keefe (clarinet), and John Jensen (piano) for the occasion of my March 2, 2014 concert at Macalester College. November weather can be turbulent in the prairie states, mixing the bluster of rain, ice, and snow with the stillness of their anticipation. The title also has overtones of nearing completion as in my nearing the end of my time on the prairies.
