Written on the occasion of the birth of my daughter, Elizabeth McLean Macy, the piece is a set of 5 short movements, 4 of which are songs: 1. All’s Right with the World (Robert Browning); 2. There was a little girl (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow); Interlude (instrumental); 4. Little Things (Frances S. Osgood); 5. A Wise Old Owl (anonymous).
The set of songs exists in two versions, the second being with cello rather than marimba. Also included here is a piano/vocal for three of the movements.
